MRIDANGAM COMPETITION

Rules of Participation

1. There will be three divisions (age groups): Sub-Junior for ages 12 and below, Junior for ages 13 to 17, and Senior for ages 18 to 24 (Ages should be calculated as of May 31).

2. If an applicant is competing in vocal and percussion, a separate application form must be submitted for each category. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

3. Seniors:- Participants must submit Two (2) thalas in which they are able to perform thani-avarthanam (max. 5 mins each). Also Four (4) songs must be chosen in at least two different thalas for testing accompaniment ability.

Juniors:- Participants must submit two (2) thalas in which they are able to perform thani-avarthanam (max. 5 mins each).

Sub-juniors:- Participants will be tested based on their lessons learnt. To prepare, students are expected to be thorough with lessons learnt in class. Judges may request students to perform and recite lessons.

4. The above time limits will be imposed. One of the judges will signal the conclusion of the allotted time. Sometimes, the judges may request contestants to stop before the allotted time as well.

6. The decision of the judges is final and binding.

7. Failure to comply with these rules will result in immediate disqualification. Please make sure that your entry confirms to the rules and also keep strictly within the time limits.

8. All applicants for registration must be received by May 15. Applications received after that date will not be accepted under any circumstances.
